JAGANNATH TEMPLE HISTORY

                   Jagannath Temple History

According to Hindu religion, the four Dhams are Badrinath, Dwarka, Rameswaram and Puri. It is believed that when Lord Vishnu settled in the four Dhams, he first went to Badrinath and took bath there, after this he went to Dwarka in Gujarat and changed his clothes there. After Dwarka, he had food in Puri in Odisha and finally rested in Rameswaram in Tamil Nadu.

Who built this temple ?

King Indradyumna built the temple.

One night Lord Vishnu appeared to him in his dream and said that there is an idol of mine in a cave in Nilachal mountain, it is called Neelamadhava. You should build a temple and install this idol of mine in it.

Now it was the turn to carve the idol of the God from wood. The king's craftsmen tried a lot but no one could even put a chisel in the wood. Then the skilled craftsman of the three worlds, Lord Vishwakarma, came in the form of an old man. He told the king that he could make the idol of Neelmadhava, but at the same time he also put his condition that he would make the idol in 21 days and would do it alone. No one can see him making it. His condition was accepted. People kept hearing the sounds of saw, chisel and hammer. Queen Gundicha of King Indradyumna could not stop herself. When she went near the door, she did not hear any sound. She got scared. She thought the old craftsman had died. She informed the king about this. When no sound was heard from inside, the king also felt the same. Ignoring all the conditions and warnings, the king ordered to open the door of the room.  As soon as the room was opened, the old man was missing and three incomplete statues were found lying there. Lord Neelamadhava and his brother had small hands but no legs, while Subhadra's hands and feet were not made at all. The king considered it to be God's will and installed these incomplete statues. Since then, the three siblings exist in this form.

What is Navkalebar ?

Nabakalevara is a time cycle in which the old wooden idols of Lord Jagannath, Balabhadra, Sudarshan and Goddess Subhadra are replaced with new ones.

                               RATH YATRA

Rath Yatra is the biggest festival in the world

A few days before the Rath Yatra, Lord Balabhadra, sister Suvadra and Lord Jagannath are given a bath. After the bath, the Lord falls ill for 15 days and is cared for. After 15 days, the Rath Yatra of the Lord takes place.

There is only one God in the whole universe who leaves his throne in the temple for his devotees and comes out of the temple to meet his devotees.

Mystery of Jagannath temple :

1 . No birds or airplanes fly over the Jagannath Temple.

2 . The temple does not cast a shadow.

3 . The flag of the Jagannath temple flutters in the opposite direction of the wind.

4 . There is a temple near the sea, the roar of the sea can be heard till the temple but surprisingly the sound cannot be heard when one enters the temple.

5 . To prepare the Mahaprasad of the temple, vessels are kept one above the other on the stove. Surprisingly, the prasad kept on the top is prepared first and then the prasad kept below is prepared one by one.
